What is a WebQuest? How do my students benefit from it?
Hi everyone! Today, I will be talking about something interesting, which is called WebQuest. Firstly, I will define it,
"A WebQuest," according to Bernie Dodge, the originator of the WebQuest concept, "is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than on looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation." It enables us to give all the necessary information and resources step by step, without getting too complex for students to understand them. -
My friend Merve Mızrak and I came up with an example WebQuest, you can check it out by clicking here. We made our WebQuest technology-enhanced by requesting students to use online tools to create a short podcast and a poster. We requested them to introduce us a new culture (with its customs and traditions, cuisine, festivals etc.). We thought that it would be a great subject to create a podcast and a poster for.
This is basically what WebQuest is. Just make it simple and students basically follow your instructions and take care of the rest.
Do you have any comments about using WebQuest in education? Please comment it down below, and see you in another post!
